In this free online workshop for licensed psychologists on the 29th of September, 2023, Matthew Jarvinen, PhD. presents video recordings of therapy sessions to help you to improve the Therapeutic Alliance.
What has psychotherapy research demonstrated to be the single greatest factor in increasing client satisfaction, improving effectiveness, and decreasing dropouts?
The therapeutic alliance.
In this learning gathering, Dr. Jarvinen will help you identify and enhance the 4 aspects of the therapeutic alliance:
- getting agreement on the problems;
- getting agreement on the cause of problems and barriers to progress;
- getting agreement on the therapeutic tasks which will address those causes and barriers; and
- getting agreement on the roles the client and therapist play in those tasks.
With a combination of PowerPoint presentation, skill building exercises, and video demonstration, Dr. Jarvinen will show how Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) establishes the therapeutic alliance in the initial session and then maintains the quality of the alliance in following sessions.
ISTDP is an accelerated model of dynamic psychotherapy, comprising a set of powerful interventions to alleviate symptoms of emotional distress and to promote mental health in a rapid and cost-effective way. This method can be one of the most effective, transformative, and emotionally powerful forms of therapy. However, without special attention to the alliance, it can also lead to misalliances, dropouts, and treatment failures. This presentation will help you identify the most common alliance-related pitfalls, as well as how to avoid them.
Whether you are are working with CBT, hypnotherapy, person-centered therapy, psychoanalysis, symboltherapy, somatic therapies, DREAM or ISTDP, we invite you to learn more on how to improve your work with your clients!
